What is happening with mail sent to the IRS?

The short answer : there are significant delays in delivery via the USPS and processing via the IRS. Customers should plan accordingly!

Many of you may be sending mail to the IRS and rightfully concerned that these important documents arrive on time. The USPS offers some tips regarding Mail to the IRS.

Unfortunately, Mailform does not provide a Certificate of Mailing Service by the USPS, which you can use to retain Proof of Mailing. Our print partners are working on making this available, however we do not yet have a timeline on completion.

As you can imagine, the IRS has both increases volume of mail in October due to the shift of the Federal tax deadline and further the closures of many IRS locations. The below response from the USPS captures the challenges facing the USPS and the IRS in this trying time:
